LAHORE – The Unique Group of Institutions organised an awareness seminar at the Dr Nisar Ahmad Rana Auditorium in Lahore to raise awareness about the growing threat of smog and environmental pollution.
The event was presided over by Chairman of the Unique Group, Professor Abdul Mannan Khurram, while Rector Professor Amjad Ali Khan, Director Professor Waseem Anwar Chaudhry, and Additional Director Muhammad Abdullah were also in attendance.
A documentary highlighting the causes and effects of smog was also screened during the seminar, shedding light on the urgent need for collective action to combat environmental challenges.
Addressing the seminar, Professor Abdul Mannan Khurram emphasized the dual responsibility of educational institutions — not only to impart academic knowledge but also to contribute to the social and environmental education of students.
“Environmental pollution is a global crisis, not just a local concern,” he said. “Educational institutions must play a proactive role in creating awareness among students to ensure they grow into responsible citizens who contribute positively to society.”
He further added that the primary goal of hosting the seminar was to make students more aware of the serious health and environmental consequences of smog, especially as the region braces for worsening air quality in the coming months.
Professor Khurram urged other educational institutions to initiate similar campaigns and emphasized the crucial role teachers play in guiding students not only academically but also on pressing social and environmental issues.
The seminar saw enthusiastic participation from both faculty members and students, reflecting a growing awareness and commitment among the youth to address environmental challenges.
