LAHORE ( RNN TV ) – A local court in Lahore has cleared an elderly man named Sajid Nawaz, a well-known internet personality, in a case about allegedly using offensive language against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and other top officials.
The court gave a written order saying Sajid should be released due to lack of evidence in the case, which was filed under FIR No. 2771. Police had accused him of making inappropriate comments about senior provincial leaders.
However, the court said that the Lahore police failed to show any solid proof connecting him to the video clips. During the hearing, police asked for Sajid’s physical remand, but the judge refused, saying there was no strong reason to keep him in jail.
The court also said that his arrest had no legal basis and that others named in the same case had already been cleared, showing the case had no real value.
The case got public attention after video clips with alleged offensive remarks went viral on social media. After the court’s decision, Sajid Nawaz was released from custody.
