LAHORE (RNN TV) — Retired Indian Army officer and television commentator Major Gaurav Arya has asked the Indian government to ban the digital news channel Rasta News Network (RNN TV), claiming it poses a threat to national security. The move came shortly after RNN TV aired an investigative report that questioned Arya’s role in promoting anti-Pakistan narratives following the recent Pahalgam attack in Kashmir.
RNN TV, a relatively new channel with fewer than 40,000 subscribers, has gained attention for its bold investigative journalism and critical take on regional issues. In its report, the channel alleged that Major Arya’s statements on Indian news channels lacked evidence and were aimed at fueling tensions with Pakistan. Following the release of the report, Major Arya reportedly lodged a complaint with the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, labeling the channel as “anti-India” and demanding action. The segment also examined Arya’s past affiliations and accused him of spreading one-sided views that contribute to public misinformation. RNN’s videos went viral across India, with many Indians commenting on them.
Following the release of the report, Major Arya reportedly lodged a complaint with the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, labeling the channel as “anti-India” and demanding action. The Indian government responded by blocking RNN TV’s access on digital platforms across the country, including YouTube and social media.
The decision has sparked criticism from media watchdogs and free speech advocates, who view the ban as an act of censorship. They argue that the channel is being punished for presenting an alternative point of view rather than for spreading false information. The incident has once again raised questions about press freedom and the growing control over digital media in India.
