Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza has revealed that Pakistan relied solely on its own capabilities during a recent 96-hour military conflict with India, without any foreign assistance.
In an interview with the BBC, Gen Shamshad dismissed claims that countries like China provided satellite intelligence or real-time support. “The equipment used was either domestically produced or procured earlier. In real-time, it was entirely Pakistan’s capability,” he stated.
He emphasized that the conflict was handled independently, with no aid from any external sources. Though he did not specify the timing or full scope of the confrontation, Gen Shamshad noted it differed from past skirmishes by affecting urban areas rather than just border zones.
“The borders are relatively calm now, but tensions in cities have increased. Future conflicts may not remain limited to traditional flashpoints like Kashmir,” he warned.
Gen Shamshad also pointed out the lack of structured mechanisms to manage India-Pakistan tensions, noting that communication is limited to the DGMO hotline, which is inadequate during major crises.
He further raised concerns about growing regional extremism, saying it reduces the scope for diplomatic or third-party intervention. “Even though the U.S. and others attempted to mediate, the space for such efforts is shrinking,” he added.
