
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the General Staff Headquarters in Tehran as part of an official tour aimed at deepening Pakistan’s strategic partnerships in the region, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During his visit, Gen Munir met with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. The two military leaders discussed the evolving regional security landscape and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.
The ISPR noted that both sides explored avenues to enhance military-to-military collaboration and improve border security mechanisms. The leaders emphasized transforming the Pakistan-Iran border into a zone of trade and economic connectivity to foster stability and prosperity across the region.
Gen Munir was welcomed with full military honours, including a ceremonial guard of honour by a contingent of the Iranian Armed Forces.
In addition to his military engagements, Gen Munir joined Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as part of a high-level delegation touring Türkiye, Iran, and Azerbaijan. While in Tehran, the Pakistani delegation met with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss regional cooperation and strategic alignment.
