ISLAMABAD/LAHORE (RNN TV) — The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday rejected objections raised by the Registrar’s Office to petitions filed by former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi seeking suspension of their sentences in the £190 million reference. A division bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Sarfaraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif, ordered that the petitions be assigned diary numbers to enable formal hearings.
During the proceedings, Advocate Latif Khosa criticized the Registrar’s actions, calling the objections unprecedented in his 38-year legal career. Justice Dogar assured that the matter would proceed once the petitions are properly numbered. PTI leaders and Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan, Noreen Khanum, and Dr Uzma, were present in court.
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned the hearing of Imran Khan’s bail petitions in eight May 9 riot cases, including the Jinnah House attack, until May 15. Barrister Salman Safdar, representing Khan, argued the prosecution was stalling the case and criticized the request for further remand two years after the incident. The court directed both parties to present their arguments at the next hearing.
The petitions assert that the allegations against Khan are vague, politically motivated, and based on weak claims of ‘abetment,’ while stressing his custody with NAB at the time of the incidents. The pleas seek to overturn the trial court’s earlier denial of bail.
