A petition has been submitted to the Islamabad High Court seeking the parole-based release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, citing serious security concerns amid rising regional tensions with India.
Filed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the petition warns of a potential drone strike on Adiala Jail, allegedly orchestrated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom it describes as considering Imran Khan his “greatest adversary.” It claims Imran’s previous efforts to expose Modi on international platforms have made him a target for retaliation.
“India has already carried out drone strikes in multiple cities. Under such conditions, the PTI founder’s life is at grave risk in custody,” the petition states.
The plea argues that Khan’s imprisonment in what it calls politically motivated cases violates his fundamental rights and stresses that the Constitution permits parole in cases involving health or safety threats. It also cites his compliant behavior during detention and a decline in his health as further justification for release.
The petition notes that a prior request was made to the Punjab Home Department but no action was taken. It calls on the court to grant parole in light of constitutional protections, international legal standards, and prison regulations.
