ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) — Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Junaid Akbar, has confirmed that he has submitted his resignation to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), though the National Assembly Secretariat has yet to receive any formal notification.
In an interview, Akbar stated, “I have resigned. I conveyed it to Barrister Gohar,” referring to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. He also mentioned that he had asked Gohar to consult PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, regarding the decision.
Akbar clarified that he had not been officially asked to resign but chose to step down voluntarily, emphasizing that the position was not of personal importance to him.
Sources suggest that Imran Khan had advised Akbar to relinquish the PAC chairmanship, with the message reportedly delivered through his sister, Aleema Khan.
Despite these developments, a spokesperson for the National Assembly Secretariat confirmed that no official resignation has been received. “There is a formal process for resigning and for the approval of any committee member or chairman’s resignation,” the spokesperson said.
The Secretariat will inform the National Assembly Speaker once any official step is taken, the spokesperson added.
