LAHORE (RNN TV) — Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has officially announced the appointment of Mike Hesson as the new head coach of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team.
Speaking to the media, Naqvi confirmed that Hesson will assume his role on May 26 and will oversee the national team in the ODI and T20I formats. “I am pleased to announce Mike Hesson as the new head coach of the Pakistan team,” Naqvi said.
Hesson, a seasoned international coach, is best known for his successful tenure with the New Zealand national team, guiding them to the 2015 ICC World Cup final. He has also coached Kenya and is currently the head coach of Islamabad United, the reigning HBL Pakistan Super League champions.
The PCB chairman noted that the position had remained vacant following Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in April, and the board had reviewed several applications before finalizing Hesson’s appointment.
In a related development, former pacer Aaqib Javed has been named Director of the High Performance Centre. Naqvi said the role had been unoccupied and Javed’s experience made him the right fit for the job.
With Hesson’s appointment, the PCB aims to strengthen the team’s performance in the limited-overs format ahead of key international tournaments.
