ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) – Pakistan and the United States on Friday agreed to strengthen cooperation in counterterrorism and counter-narcotics, pledging to make information-sharing more effective as part of their growing security partnership.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and U.S. Coordinator for Counterterrorism Gregory LoGerfo at the Ministry of Interior. Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry, Acting U.S. Ambassador Natalie Baker, and senior Pakistani officials also attended.

According to an official statement, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhance bilateral relations in counterterrorism, border security, and anti-narcotics efforts. Naqvi said Pakistan–U.S. ties had strengthened since President Donald Trump’s administration took office, crediting transparency, mutual trust, and cooperation for improving relations. He also welcomed Washington’s recent move to designate the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Majeed Brigade as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, calling it a positive step toward regional security.

Naqvi emphasized that ongoing counterterrorism dialogue would pave the way for a joint strategy against extremist groups. Gregory LoGerfo, in turn, recognized Pakistan’s geo-strategic importance and conveyed condolences over recent terror-related casualties.

The meeting followed a recent U.S. decision to blacklist the BLA and Majeed Brigade, which Islamabad has long accused of orchestrating violent attacks. Analysts described the designation as a significant diplomatic win for Pakistan.

Earlier this week, the two countries also agreed to intensify counterterrorism cooperation against militant outfits including the BLA, ISIS-Khorasan, and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). For the first time, a joint statement explicitly listed groups like the BLA, underscoring a shift in Washington’s approach toward Pakistan’s security concerns.
