Five of the six independent senators elected with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) support from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have officially joined the party, increasing PTI’s representation in the Senate to 21 members.

According to PTI officials, Senators Mirza Afridi, Azam Swati, Faisal Javed, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, and Rubina Naz have submitted their declarations of affiliation to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. The declarations have also been sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for official record.

Murad Saeed, the sixth senator elected with PTI’s backing, has yet to submit his formal declaration.

SAMAA has obtained copies of the declarations submitted by Senators Mirza Afridi and Azam Swati. Both confirmed their election from KP on July 21, 2025, and stated they are unaffiliated with any other party, joining PTI voluntarily.

In the July 21 Senate elections, PTI-backed candidates Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Afridi, and Noor-ul-Haq Qadri won general seats, while Azam Swati and Rubina Naz were elected on technocrat and women’s reserved seats, respectively.

Other winners from KP include PPP’s Talha Mehmood (general) and Rubina Khalid (women’s reserved), PML-N’s Niaz Ahmad (general), and JUI-F’s Dilawar Khan (technocrat) and Atta ul Haq (general).
