ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) — Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan has issued a stark warning regarding a potential Indian military action against Pakistan, citing credible intelligence reports that indicate a heightened threat.

Speaking after a closed-door United Nations Security Council (UNSC) consultation on the Pakistan-India situation, Khan said Council members voiced serious concern over rising regional tensions. They called for immediate de-escalation and urged both countries to exercise restraint.

The UNSC stressed the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, with several members identifying the Kashmir issue as the core cause of instability. The Council underscored the need for a resolution in accordance with its own resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

During the session, Pakistan condemned India’s “aggressive posture,” particularly actions taken on April 23, which Islamabad described as provocative and dangerous. Strong objections were also raised over India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty—an agreement seen as vital to regional cooperation and stability.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad dismissed Indian allegations related to the Pahalgam incident as unfounded and politically motivated. He warned that any Indian attempt to block Pakistan’s water supply would be considered an act of war.

Khan confirmed that the UNSC was briefed on intelligence suggesting a high probability of Indian military adventurism. Pakistan made its position clear: while it does not seek confrontation, it is fully prepared to defend itself and will respond decisively to any aggression.

Islamabad welcomed the UN Secretary-General’s offer to mediate and expressed appreciation for the Security Council’s ongoing role in promoting peace and stability in South Asia.
