Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tehran on Monday for a two-day official visit to Iran, marking the second leg of his four-nation diplomatic outreach following his trip to Türkiye. The visit aims to bolster bilateral ties and enhance regional cooperation.
Upon landing at Mehrabad Airport, PM Shehbaz was welcomed by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, along with senior diplomats. A ceremonial guard of honour was presented by the Iranian army.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation—including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and key federal ministers—the prime minister proceeded to Tehran’s historic Saadabad Palace for talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Discussions will focus on economic, political, and strategic cooperation, as well as regional peace and security. PM Shehbaz is also scheduled to meet Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei later in the visit. A joint press briefing with President Pezeshkian and a state dinner will round out the day’s engagements.
Earlier Visit to Türkiye
Before arriving in Iran, PM Shehbaz completed a two-day visit to Türkiye, where he met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Istanbul’s Dolmabahce Palace. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening strategic and economic ties.
President Erdogan praised Pakistan’s recent military achievements and reaffirmed Türkiye’s continued support. The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in trade, energy, defense, IT, and agriculture.
During the visit, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir also held talks with Turkish Defense Minister Yasir Guler, reinforcing military and defense cooperation.
PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s support during recent tensions with India, calling the bilateral relationship a “brotherhood rooted in history and shared values.”
