Following the tragic flash floods in Swat that claimed the lives of several tourists, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has taken strict administrative measures, suspending multiple government officials for negligence and poor handling of the crisis.

According to the chief minister’s spokesperson, Faraz Mughal, an initial review of the incident revealed lapses in emergency response and preparedness, prompting the suspension of key district and rescue officials involved in managing the disaster.

Among those suspended are:

  • The Assistant Commissioner of Babuzai, for a delayed response to the emergency.

  • The Assistant Commissioner of Khawazakhela, for failing to issue timely warnings despite existing weather alerts.

  • The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Relief, for not arranging preventive measures ahead of the flood.

  • The district head of Rescue 1122, for inadequate preparedness and poor coordination during rescue operations.

In addition, Chief Minister Gandapur has ordered the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) to conduct a comprehensive inquiry to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The probe aims to identify all responsible parties and assess the extent of administrative negligence.

“The Chief Minister has emphasized that anyone found responsible for compromising public safety will face strict consequences,” the spokesperson said, adding that further suspensions or disciplinary actions could follow once the inquiry concludes.
