ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) – The Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) contempt of court notice against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and members of the federal cabinet in the Dr Aafia Siddiqui case has been temporarily halted due to internal procedural complications.
Earlier, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan had directed the Prime Minister and cabinet to respond within two weeks for failing to submit a report. However, the court’s Registrar Office withheld the issuance of official notices, citing that the case was not formally listed for hearing on July 21, despite a judicial order being passed.
Sources revealed that Justice Ejaz’s hearing note was received on July 16—after the weekly roster had been finalized. A revised cause list was due but remained pending approval from the competent authority, preventing the notices from being dispatched.
On July 21, Justice Ejaz nonetheless issued a written order and show-cause notices, and expressed frustration over what he described as administrative interference aimed at influencing court proceedings. He stated the next hearing would be held on the first working day following the court’s summer break.
Justice Ejaz further disclosed that the case of Dr Fauzia Siddiqui had been intentionally scheduled for July 21 but the cause list was blocked. He added that his request to the Chief Justice for hearing permission during vacation was left unsigned.
Condemning what he termed the misuse of administrative powers to override judicial discretion, Justice Ejaz vowed to uphold the court’s dignity and asserted: “I will not let justice be defeated.”
