RAWALPINDI – (RNN TV) —With just eight days left until Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, preparations are in full swing across Punjab, where cities are being adorned with green and white in a festive display of patriotism under the official theme: “From Freedom to Protection of Freedom.”
In cities like Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Gujrat, Layyah, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, and Attock, streets, buildings, and public spaces are being beautifully decorated with national flags, banners, lights, and hoardings.
In Rawalpindi, prominent areas including Murree Road, Saddar, Satellite Town, Faizabad, Commercial Market, Chandni Chowk, Committee Chowk, Raja Bazaar, Fawara Chowk, Mall Road, and Charing Cross have been transformed with vibrant displays of the green crescent flag.
Neighborhoods such as Gawalmandi, Moti Bazaar, Liaquat Road, Chaklala, Sixth Road, and Seventh Road have also joined the celebrations, with flags hoisted and colorful lights strung across streets.
Murree Road, in particular, has been lined on both sides with national flags, decorative buntings, and Independence-themed banners. Giant LED screens and hoardings have also been installed at major intersections and public squares across the province to mark the occasion.
Children are taking special interest in the celebrations, enthusiastically waving flags and decorating homes and vehicles with stickers and miniature flags. Young citizens are also decking out motorcycles and bicycles with patriotic symbols.
Public and private buildings, hospitals, old age homes, and key intersections are glowing with illuminations and decorative lighting, creating a festive and patriotic atmosphere. Even highways connecting major cities have been decorated with national symbols.
Local administrations and civil society organizations are actively participating in organizing events and ensuring widespread public engagement.
Meanwhile, schools, colleges, and universities across Punjab are hosting a variety of colorful cultural and patriotic programs to honor the country’s independence and instill national pride in students.
Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that Independence Day is not merely a celebration, but a time to reaffirm our ideological commitment.
“It is an opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices of our founding leaders, as dignified nations always honor those who paved the way for their freedom,” she said.
