ISLAMABAD/WASHINGTON (RNN TV) – Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, is set to embark on his second high-profile visit to the United States this week—just weeks after his landmark trip in June—highlighting the growing strategic and economic engagement between Islamabad and Washington.
According to credible reports, Field Marshal Munir will attend the retirement ceremony of U.S. CENTCOM Commander General Michael Kurilla. General Kurilla, a key figure in the Pentagon’s regional strategy, received Pakistan’s prestigious Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) during his visit to Islamabad in July, and is noted for his rare public praise of Pakistan’s counterterrorism and strategic cooperation.
During his last visit, General Munir held a historic luncheon meeting at the White House with U.S. President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio, Special Representative Steve Witkoff, and top Pakistani military officials. The two-hour engagement reportedly marked a significant diplomatic breakthrough—the first face-to-face meeting between the Pakistani Army Chief and POTUS since the post-Balakot military standoff between Pakistan and India.
That meeting yielded significant outcomes, including the announcement of a breakthrough U.S.-Pakistan trade agreement. Led by Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and top American negotiators, the deal includes tariff reductions on Pakistani exports and lays the groundwork for joint ventures in critical sectors such as energy, oil exploration, cryptocurrency, and emerging technologies.
In a recent public statement, President Trump confirmed that both countries are finalizing the selection of a major oil company to begin exploration of Pakistan’s largely untapped reserves—a move widely seen as potentially transformative for the region’s energy landscape.
As Field Marshal Munir returns to the U.S., observers see his visit as part of an evolving strategic realignment that places Pakistan at the center of renewed geopolitical and economic interest from Washington.
