QUETTA (RNN TV) – In a major development to enhance public transport infrastructure in Balochistan, the provincial government and Pakistan Railways have agreed to jointly launch the Peoples Train Service, aimed at boosting intercity connectivity within the province.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, where officials confirmed that consultations on the proposed route from Saryab to Kuchlak have been completed. The route is expected to serve as a pilot corridor for expanded rail service across Balochistan.
As part of the initiative, the Balochistan government will procure locomotives and passenger coaches directly from Pakistan Railways, opting against international sourcing to ensure timely implementation. This move aligns with the government’s goal of utilizing local resources and speeding up project execution.
Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi assured the provincial leadership that all required infrastructure — including engines, coaches, and auxiliary services — will be delivered within six months. In addition, Pakistan Railways will undertake upgrades to existing rail infrastructure across the region to support the new service.
Chief Minister Bugti emphasized the significance of the Peoples Train Service in improving affordable, high-quality travel options for Balochistan’s residents. He reiterated his commitment to the project, stating he is personally monitoring its progress and that no delays will be tolerated.
“The Peoples Train Service will revolutionize public transport in Balochistan and connect communities like never before,” he stated.
Punjab Goes Green: Orange Line Train Stations to Switch to Solar Power
In a separate development, the Punjab government has announced plans to convert all Orange Line Metro Train stations and stops to solar power, a move expected to significantly reduce operational costs and reliance on the national grid.
A 1.6-megawatt solar power plant will be installed, supplying electricity for elevators, platforms, and essential systems across all Orange Line stations. Officials say the shift will not only reduce utility expenses but also contribute to clean energy adoption within urban transit systems.
This step marks a broader push by provincial authorities to modernize public transportation infrastructure while embracing sustainable energy solutions.
