WASHINGTON (RNN TV) — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Washington is keeping a close watch on developments between Pakistan and India despite the ceasefire that ended their most recent confrontation.

In an interview on Sunday, Rubio underscored how fragile truce agreements can be, stressing that ceasefires in conflict zones often collapse without broader political settlements. “Every single day we keep an eye on what’s happening between Pakistan and India, what’s happening between Cambodia and Thailand,” he remarked. “Ceasefires can fall apart very quickly, especially after a three-and-a-half-year [Russia-Ukraine] war like what we’re facing now.”

The top US diplomat said Washington continues to press for peace in Ukraine but noted that only negotiated agreements, not temporary pauses, can deliver lasting stability.

Recent Escalation Between Pakistan and India

Earlier this year, tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors nearly spiraled out of control. On May 7, India launched “Operation Sindoor”, conducting airstrikes inside Pakistani territory—an action strongly condemned by Islamabad.

Pakistan retaliated with “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos”, striking multiple Indian military targets, downing six fighter jets—including three Rafales—and dozens of drones. The confrontation lasted nearly 87 hours before the United States stepped in to mediate.

President Donald Trump personally announced the ceasefire on social media, presenting it as a diplomatic achievement. While New Delhi downplayed Washington’s role, Pakistan openly acknowledged Trump’s mediation efforts and even suggested him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

Covert Indian Operation Reported

Security officials now warn that India has launched “Operation Mahadev,” a covert campaign allegedly designed to stage fake encounters and portray detained Pakistanis as cross-border militants. Sources claim the effort is intended to conceal Indian battlefield setbacks while further suppressing the Kashmiri freedom movement.
