LAHORE (RNN TV) — In the third match of the 10th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), Multan Sultans captain Muhammad Rizwan won praise for choosing to speak in Urdu instead of English during the toss.
Ahead of the game at National Bank Stadium—where Rizwan went on to score an unbeaten 105 in a thrilling high-scoring contest—he humbly announced, “I’ll speak in Urdu,” before proceeding with his comments in his native language.
The moment quickly went viral on social media, drawing applause from fans and commentators alike for embracing Urdu in a setting where English typically dominates.
Muhammad Rizwan’s choice to speak in Urdu during the toss has sparked a broader conversation around linguistic pride and inclusivity in Pakistani cricket.
Addressing the topic in a pre-match press conference, Rizwan admitted that speaking English can be challenging and said he now aims to prioritise Urdu in interviews whenever possible.
Although Rizwan delivered a stellar performance with an unbeaten 105 — laced with nine fours and five sixes — it wasn’t enough to secure a win, as Karachi Kings’ James Vince powered his team to victory with a blistering 101 off just 43 balls.
Adding a light-hearted moment after the game, Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen took to social media, joking, “Learnt something from Vince and Khushdil today!” — a comment that quickly gained traction online.
