LAHORE (RNN TV) — The Punjab School Education Department has submitted a summary to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, proposing the commencement of summer vacations in educational institutions from June 1, amid rising concerns over an impending heatwave.

Secretary of Education Khalid Nazir Wattoo confirmed that the proposal has been sent to the Chief Minister, and a final decision on whether to begin the holidays early will be made by her. He noted that due to the heatwave alerts, the summer break may start sooner than originally planned.

In the meantime, the department has issued a set of guidelines for schools to protect students from the intensifying heat. Both public and private school administrations have been instructed to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for students. This includes the provision of clean and cold drinking water in classrooms and maintaining hydration among students by encouraging them to drink 8–10 glasses of water daily.

Schools have also been advised to make use of electronic cooling devices like fans and air coolers and to hold classes in well-ventilated rooms. Additionally, the department has recommended minimizing outdoor activities to reduce students’ exposure to extreme temperatures.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast severe heatwave conditions across most parts of the country starting April 13, urging the public to take necessary precautions to stay safe.
