LAHORE (RNN TV) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed PML-N President Nawaz Sharif on Sunday about the decisions made during the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting following India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) after the Pahalgam attack in Indian-held Kashmir.
Shehbaz Sharif accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, met Nawaz at their family residence in Jati Umrah. The PM informed his brother about the NSC’s resolutions and Pakistan’s readiness to respond strongly to any aggression.
Shehbaz Sharif also described the Pahalgam incident as a “false flag operation” by India, aimed at destabilizing the region. He emphasized that while Pakistan seeks peace, the country’s security remains non-negotiable.
Sources within PML-N said Nawaz Sharif urged the government to use diplomatic channels to de-escalate tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations, stressing that he was not inclined to adopt an aggressive stance.
Earlier, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif proposed the formation of an international commission—comprising representatives from the United States, Iran, China, Russia, and the UK—to investigate the Pahalgam attack. He stated that Pakistan was willing to cooperate with such a commission to expose the truth, but warned that any Indian misadventure would meet with Pakistan’s full preparedness.
Asif highlighted that rising tensions between two nuclear powers posed a global risk, urging the international community to take action to mitigate the escalating crisis.
