Security forces killed five terrorists and captured two others during three intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Saturday.

The operations, launched amid a surge in terrorist activity following the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) withdrawal from a ceasefire in late 2022, were carried out in Bajaur, North Waziristan, and Mohmand districts.

In Bajaur, troops launched an operation based on intelligence reports of terrorist presence. A fierce exchange of fire resulted in the killing of three terrorists, including a high-value target identified as Fareed Ullah.

In a second operation in the Dossali area of North Waziristan, two more terrorists were gunned down during a brief but intense confrontation with security forces.

The third operation in Mohmand District led to the arrest of two terrorists, including another high-value target, Lal Ameer Ibrahim. Security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the hideout.

According to ISPR, all the militants killed or captured were actively involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region. Follow-up sanitisation operations are underway to ensure no remaining threats in the area.

The military reiterated its resolve to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan, stating that such actions reflect the commitment of the armed forces to restore peace and stability.

These operations come on the heels of a deadly month in Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts. In April, security forces killed 54 militants attempting to cross the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies recently reported over 100 militant attacks in March—the highest since 2014.

Pakistan currently ranks second on the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with a 45% increase in terror-related deaths in the past year, totaling 1,081 fatalities.
