Riyadh (RNN TV) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday for a one-day official visit to Saudi Arabia, undertaken at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Environment Minister Mosaddiq Malik, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
Focus of the Visit
According to the Foreign Office, the visit is aimed at deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in multiple areas. A key engagement of the trip will be Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, during which both sides will review the full spectrum of Pakistan–Saudi Arabia ties. Regional and global issues of shared concern are also expected to feature in the discussions.
“The visit is likely to formalise cooperation across diverse fields, reflecting the commitment of both countries to strengthening their partnership,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.
Longstanding Partnership
The FO further underlined that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy a relationship “rooted in faith, values, and mutual trust.” The current visit provides an opportunity to consolidate these ties and identify new avenues for collaboration.
Since returning to office, Shehbaz Sharif has paid several visits to the Kingdom. In October 2024, Islamabad and Riyadh signed 34 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to promote private-sector cooperation and commercial linkages. Earlier this year, the prime minister visited Saudi Arabia in March and June, with a focus on trade, investment, and joint projects.
Recent Diplomacy
The latest trip comes just days after Shehbaz Sharif met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Doha on the sidelines of an emergency Arab-Islamic summit, which was convened in response to Israeli airstrikes on Hamas leaders in Qatar. At that meeting, the Pakistani premier lauded the crown prince’s role in uniting the Muslim Ummah and pledged Islamabad’s diplomatic backing at multilateral forums, including the UN and the OIC.
The crown prince, in turn, acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in voicing support for Qatar and other Muslim countries at the international level.
Next Destinations
Following his engagements in Riyadh, Shehbaz Sharif is expected to leave for the United Kingdom on Thursday for a two-day stay. He will then travel to the United States for the next leg of his foreign tour.
