Sources reveal that India is using deceptive water management tactics to justify its unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. This propaganda campaign seems designed to mislead its citizens and create false perceptions about Pakistan’s water vulnerability.

According to reliable sources, India recently released excess water into the Jhelum River, creating the illusion of flood conditions. This move caused a flow of 22,000 cusecs through the Domel area in Muzaffarabad, likely intended to portray India as controlling water resources flowing into Pakistan.

However, water management experts have dismissed India’s claims as exaggerated. India’s storage capacity on the western rivers is just 0.624 million acre-feet, while Pakistan’s Mangla Reservoir alone can hold 7.35 million acre-feet. This stark disparity highlights India’s limited ability to disrupt Pakistan’s water supply.

Following India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, Pakistan’s Ministry of Water Resources and WAPDA have been closely monitoring the western rivers. Officials assert that India lacks the infrastructure to significantly alter river flows, making any major disruption to Pakistan’s water security highly unlikely.

Experts suggest that India’s actions are more about creating a narrative than posing a real threat. They emphasize that Pakistan’s long-term water security relies on the rapid construction of large reservoirs, regardless of India’s provocations.
