Pakistan’s military announced Thursday that it had shot down 25 Israeli-manufactured Harop drones deployed by India during a series of coordinated airspace violations on the night of May 7 and 8. The drones targeted multiple Pakistani cities in what officials described as a serious escalation of cross-border aggression.

In a press briefing, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said the drones were intercepted over a dozen urban areas including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Chakwal, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, Attock, Karachi, and Chhor.

“These unmanned aerial vehicles violated Pakistani airspace and deliberately targeted civilian areas. All were successfully neutralized by our air defence systems,” Lt Gen Chaudhry stated.

The attacks resulted in one civilian death and injuries to five others, including four soldiers in Lahore and one in Miano, Sindh—where the civilian fatality also occurred.

Describing the strikes as a “blatant violation of international norms,” Lt Gen Chaudhry warned that such actions pose a grave threat to regional peace. He linked the drone incursion to earlier Indian airstrikes on May 6 and 7, which also struck civilian areas, causing additional casualties, including children.

The ISPR chief revealed that five modern aircraft and drones used by India were destroyed in Pakistan’s defensive response. He characterized India’s actions as “reckless” and stemming from “panic” following the loss of several Indian border posts and a soldier.

“Pakistan has shown restraint but will not compromise on its sovereignty,” Lt Gen Chaudhry affirmed. “Our armed forces remain on high alert and are fully prepared to respond to any aggression.”

He urged the international community to take urgent notice of India’s continued drone use and violations of airspace, stressing that such provocations threaten South Asian stability and must be strongly condemned.
