Trump Pakistan India Kashmir issue

WASHINGTON (Web Desk) — The US Department of State on Wednesday repeated that President Donald Trump is committed to working on the Kashmir conflict. They said every step he takes aims to solve long-standing issues between countries.

Trump had offered to help with the Kashmir problem after he helped stop fighting between India and Pakistan, which was their most serious clash in years. He praised both countries’ leaders for making peace and said, “I will work with both of you to see if, after a ‘thousand years,’ a solution can be found for Kashmir.”

When asked about the US plans following Trump’s offer, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said she could not share details but reminded everyone that Trump is known for bringing people together in difficult situations. She expressed hope that the Kashmir issue could be solved too.

Bruce also talked about a recent visit by a Pakistani group led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. They met with US officials, including Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison Hooker, to discuss US-Pakistan relations and counterterrorism. Hooker supported the ongoing ceasefire.

She added that Deputy Secretary Landau recently met with Indian officials and confirmed US support for India in fighting terrorism.

Pakistan is actively working in the US to share its side of the story about the tensions with India, while India is also increasing its influence in the country.

Last week, Trump told reporters he deserves credit for stopping India and Pakistan from going to war. He said, “They don’t give me credit for anything, but nobody else could have stopped it.”
