RNN TV (APP) — Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, warning the United Nations Security Council that such actions pose a “grave danger and serious threat” to regional and global peace and stability.
The condemnation came during an emergency session of the 15-member Security Council on Friday, convened to address the escalating crisis in the Middle East. The meeting was held at the request of Iran, with Pakistan, China, and Russia supporting the call for urgent deliberations.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, described the Israeli strikes as “unjustified and illegitimate aggression,” voicing Islamabad’s unwavering solidarity with Iran and its people.
“The international community must act decisively to halt this aggression and uphold international law,” he said, urging restraint and emphasizing the importance of resolving the conflict through diplomatic means.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had formally requested the Security Council’s intervention, stating that Israel had “crossed every red line” and warning that such actions must not go unpunished.
The meeting also featured briefings from senior UN officials, including Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs. DiCarlo expressed deep concern over the growing hostilities, stating:
“I reaffirm the Secretary-General’s condemnation of any military escalation in the Middle East. The situation is dangerously volatile, and we must avoid a wider regional conflict at all costs.”
She noted that the attacks came at a critical juncture, just as diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran were scheduled to resume in Oman. Those negotiations have now been placed in doubt amid the unfolding crisis.
DiCarlo called on all parties to recommit to diplomacy, stressing that peaceful dialogue remains the best path to ensuring the non-military nature of Iran’s nuclear programme.
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), also addressed the Council. He reported that the agency was in close contact with Iranian authorities to assess the impact of the strikes on nuclear facilities.
“Nuclear sites must never be targeted, under any circumstances,” Grossi warned. “Such attacks have severe implications for nuclear safety, security, and global peace.”
He offered to visit the region personally to evaluate the situation and assist in maintaining international safeguards and stability.
Grossi reaffirmed the IAEA’s readiness to serve as a neutral platform to support de-escalation and constructive technical dialogue, stating:
“We are committed to transparency and to facilitating peaceful resolutions. Dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable paths forward.”
As tensions remain high, Pakistan reiterated its call for the immediate cessation of hostilities and the restoration of peace through adherence to international norms and cooperative diplomacy.
