UNITED NATIONS ( RNN TV) — Pakistan, China, and Russia have called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East, urging the UN Security Council (UNSC) to adopt a resolution condemning Israeli aggression against Iran and recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The crisis intensified after the United States claimed to have “obliterated” Iran’s key nuclear sites in coordination with Israel, marking the most significant Western military action against Tehran since the 1979 revolution. The US said the strikes were intended to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the US-led bombing campaign as a “perilous turn,” warning that continued escalation could push the region into a dangerous cycle of retaliation.
During a UNSC emergency session requested by Tehran, Iran launched missile strikes on Israeli territory despite warnings from former US President Donald Trump of “far greater consequences” if hostilities persisted.
Global Reactions
Russia and China strongly condemned the US strikes, while Pakistan backed Iran’s right to self-defense, citing violations of international law. All three nations submitted a draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, and a diplomatic path forward on Iran’s nuclear program.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, warned that unilateral military actions only deepen conflict. He condemned the strikes on IAEA-monitored facilities as a “dangerous precedent” and emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable solution.
China’s Ambassador Fu Cong stressed that peace cannot be achieved through force, and Russia’s Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia compared current US claims to the false justifications for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Iran and Israel Respond
Iran’s UN Ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, accused the US and Israel of undermining diplomacy, saying the nuclear non-proliferation treaty had been “manipulated into a political weapon.”
Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon praised the US strikes, calling them a necessary act of defense. He accused Iran of using nuclear talks to conceal its weapons development.
Resolution and Next Steps
The draft resolution—circulated by Pakistan, China, and Russia—calls on all parties to refrain from further escalation and demands protection for civilians and infrastructure. While the resolution does not name the US or Israel directly, it condemns attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.
A Security Council vote has yet to be scheduled. The US, which holds veto power, is expected to oppose the resolution.
Meanwhile, Iran’s parliament has supported closing the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US of abandoning diplomacy with “missiles, not words.”
