
PM Shehbaz Sharif Departs for London After Landmark Defence Pact with Saudi Arabia
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left for London on Thursday following a high-profile visit to Saudi Arabia, where Pakistan and the Kingdom signed a historic Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement.
Departure from Riyadh
At Riyadh Airport, Deputy Governor Prince Muhammad bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz bid farewell to the Pakistani premier as he concluded his state visit.
Shehbaz Sharif had traveled to the Kingdom at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, who welcomed him with full state protocol on his arrival in Riyadh.
Defense Agreement with Saudi Arabia
During their engagements, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman finalized and signed the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement. The accord establishes that any attack on either nation will be treated as an attack on both, laying the foundation for enhanced joint defense, deterrence, and regional security cooperation.
The agreement marks a significant step in strengthening Pakistan–Saudi Arabia defense ties and reflects both countries’ commitment to promoting peace and stability in the broader region.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Saudi leadership for the exceptional hospitality extended during his visit.
He noted that the royal reception — from the escort of his aircraft by Saudi Air Force jets to the ceremonial guard of honor presented by the Saudi Armed Forces — symbolized the strong bond of respect and friendship between the two nations.
The prime minister described his talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as highly cordial, noting that the two leaders exchanged views on regional issues and explored avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation.
He praised the crown prince’s leadership and vision, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Kingdom.
In his post on X, Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s consistent support and keen interest in expanding Saudi investments, trade, and business partnerships. He added that he hoped the Pakistan–Saudi Arabia friendship would continue to grow and reach new heights.
Saudi leadership’s messages
Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman also shared a message in Urdu on X, underscoring the spirit of the newly signed defense agreement.
In his concluding remarks, the prime minister reaffirmed the strength of the new partnership, declaring that Saudi Arabia and Pakistan stand united as a single front against any aggressor, “always and forever.”
