Pakistan on Tuesday firmly rejected what it described as “provocative and inflammatory assertions” made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, warning that such rhetoric threatens to further destabilize an already fragile regional situation and constitutes a “dangerous escalation.”

In a statement issued by Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, Islamabad criticized Modi’s recent address as being “rooted in misinformation, political opportunism, and a blatant disregard for international law.”

“At a time when the international community is striving to restore regional peace and stability, such statements only derail progress,” Khan said. He dismissed India’s portrayal of Pakistan as seeking a ceasefire out of “despair and frustration” as a “blatant lie.”

The FO clarified that the ceasefire understanding along the Line of Control (LoC) was achieved through diplomatic engagement, with support from several friendly countries encouraging de-escalation. “Pakistan remains committed to this understanding and continues to take steps toward regional stability,” the statement added.

Addressing the recent attack in Pahalgam, the spokesperson stated that India was using the incident as a “pretext” and insisted there was no credible evidence linking Pakistan to the act. He accused New Delhi of attempting to “malign Pakistan, justify military adventurism, and serve domestic political objectives” by constructing a false narrative of external threats.

The FO also condemned what it called India’s “reckless targeting” of Pakistan’s military installations under a false pretext. “Despite Pakistan’s restraint following unlawful aggression against civilians, India escalated tensions by striking military sites — risking an uncontrollable spiral,” the statement said.

Calling India a “revisionist actor,” the FO warned that New Delhi’s actions could undermine strategic stability in South Asia. “India is setting a dangerous precedent, dragging the region toward the brink of disaster,” the spokesperson stated.

He also rejected India’s justification of what he called the “cold-blooded murder of civilians, mostly women and children,” as part of its so-called “new normal.” The FO stressed that such actions were contrary to the UN Charter, which Pakistan said it would continue to uphold.

Pakistan described its own military response as “calibrated, precise, and limited to military installations.” “We demonstrated our defensive strength. This is an established fact, not subject to distortion through propaganda,” the spokesperson said.

The FO also criticized India’s “blatant disregard” for international agreements, citing violations of the Indus Waters Treaty. “Pakistan will take all necessary measures to protect its rights under the Treaty,” the statement warned.

Underscoring Pakistan’s longstanding role in combating terrorism, the FO stated that the country itself had suffered from “Indian-sponsored terrorism.” It reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The FO also reiterated support for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s mediation efforts on Kashmir, calling the issue a key “source of regional instability.”

“Peace is the true strength in this era,” the statement concluded. “Pakistan’s commitment to peace must never be mistaken for weakness. Any future aggression will be met with full resolve. We urge India to abandon politically motivated jingoism and work toward regional stability and prosperity.”
